If you walk into an ordinary Catholic parish, you'd get the feeling that things are going well for the Catholic church in America. And they're just not. The numbers show that they're not. And that sense of complacency is a big part of the problem. This episode of The Catholic Podcast discusses how bad it is in the Catholic Church today, and how we can change things with the New Evangelization.

How refreshing it is to hear a truly balanced assessment of the current state of the Church today! Depressing yes, but at least the truth is visible for us to see and understand. This way we might be able to counter the evil trend of growing 'faithlessness' in our society today in a more strategic and spiritually effective way; that is, to be more effective 'fishermen of men'.

As a man who just returned from kerygmatic fishing at a Junior College campus in Northern CA. just 2 hours ago, from where I conversed with about 40+ students from various countries (2 who said they were Persians, 3 from India, 1 from Pakistan, a few Asians with heavy accents; a Baptist who considered himself an expert in the Crusades and which we discussed Charles Martel and the Battle of Tours... and also St. Bedes English history; two semi-retarded students who approached me for literature ... one of which was more knowledgable and devout than any other students I encountered today; and then about 10 Catholic students who listened and accepted literature and encouragement from me (giving them selections from "The Public Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ" by Archbp. Alban Goodier SJ,); I can say from my experience that there is a lot of hope still if the people who still have the Catholic Faith, will just focus on a few things:

1. Trying to bring people to podcasts such as this present one.
2. Trying to get people to listen to Relevant Radio.
3. Try to visit local Farmers markets on Saturdays to hand out the best Catholic literature you can afford; or re-print on your own desktop printer.
4. Try to teach Christ to others, using "The Public Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ" (public domain) written by Archbishop Alban Goodier S.J.'s text . It can be distributed by chapters to the people you meet....and especially at Junior and 4 year Colleges near any major city in the USA.
5. Print out available online versions of The 'Confession of St. Patrick' (only 4 pages from and back) to distribute to partier goers, and at bars, on St. Patricks Day. You can easily distribute hundreds of the entire biography in any one day near the St. Patricks feast day.
6. Distribute selections from lives of saints such as St. Francis of Assisi, St. Alphonsus Liguori, St. John Bosco, The Cure' de Ars, St. Louis de Montfort, etc... in all the above mentioned locations.

And, 7: Distribute all of this literature to the people of your own Parish and in your own neighborhood also by putting the same on peoples doorsteps every month.

These are all very practical means of putting the 'New Evangelization into practice today. And especially with Goodier's text, the students seem very happy, and are very open to receive them. Soon, I will add this pod cast to my list of recommended sites and literature...that is, once the number of Podcasts grow a bit.

Best to you, Joe and Chloe, in your excellent evangelization project! May God allow it to bear abundant fruits, now an forever!

I just want to quickly say that I really enjoyed Episode 1 and I think it makes a lot of sense that you chose that topic for your first episode. It speaks volumes about what you are ultimately trying to accomplish through your work. I have already started promoting the podcast to my network. Please continue to make new episodes and don’t get discouraged. Projects like this start slow, but you have the talent and faith to make it a very impactful podcast for a lot of people. God bless you guys. (Side Note: I love the first comment. Good work, Al Williams! Such solid, practical advice.)
